The power of the social media is enormous, and we already learned that. Our president Donald Trump is also aware of that, and he consistently and repeatedly uses social media to share some of his opinions and to see the fit back from the American people.
Recently, Trump made the declaration on Twitter, saying that American forces could not afford the “tremendous medical costs and disruption” of transgender service members.
This step made a huge public response to all kind of groups, some of them think that Trump’s move is just another example of why major policy announcements should not be made via Twitter, some of them approve, and some disapprove the president step.
Trump’s abrupt decision is likely to end up in court. OutServe-SLDN, a nonprofit group that represents gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people in the military, immediately vowed to sue.
“We have transgender individuals who serve in elite SEAL teams, who are working in a time of war to defend our country, and now you’re going to kick them out?” Matthew F. Thorn, executive director of OutServe, said in an interview.
Meanwhile, the US Joint Chiefs of Staff have told the military that there will be no change in trans policy until they receive official guidance from the president. The announcement comes just one day after Trump tweeted that he would bring back the anti-trans ban, which President Barack Obama’s administration moved to repeal during Obama’s last year in office.
